Chinese Communities in the Changing Dynamics of the 21st Century:
Retrospect and Prospect for the New Era

Amid unprecedented changes and challenges in international politics, economics, and society, topics such as the comprehensive competition between China and the United States, increasing geopolitical conflicts, the transition of the international order from unipolarity to multipolarity, the rise of economic protectionism and de-dollarization, as well as the impact of technological developments like artificial intelligence on humanities and society, have become critical areas of academic focus.

As one of the largest migrant populations in the world, Chinese communities across the globe must consider adaptive measures or adjustments to respond to these disruptions. It is essential for them to redefine their relationship with their host countries and the world amid these shifts to position themselves advantageously for future development.

Therefore, the theme of this year’s Biennial International Conference on Malaysian Chinese Studies is “Chinese Communities in the Changing Dynamics of the 21st Century: Retrospect and Prospect for the New Era.” The conference aims to provide a platform for scholars worldwide to exchange ideas and collaborate, offering insights into shaping the trajectory of Chinese communities for the next 50 years.
